Answer the following questions in no less than 300 words but no greater than 1000 words put together...
Character's background (their past and present): Martha had a relatively uneventful childhood and began medical school after completing her secondary education. In her final year, the hospital she was observing at was transported to the moon. What was originally meant to be one quick trip in the TARDIS to thank her for assisting the Doctor during the crisis turned into a series of adventures in time and space.

Eventually, they returned to Earth and found that the Master had managed to get himself elected Prime Minister of England. After they witnessed the assassination of the American president, the Doctor ordered Martha to escape. She then spent a year walking the Earth telling people about the Doctor and preparing to restore the Doctor Tinkerbell Jesus style. They were able to hit the big old reset button, but Martha and her family still remembered everything that happened. Martha realized that her relationship with the Doctor was never going to be healthy and she decided to remain on Earth, working with both UNIT and Torchwood on her own terms. She eventually did cross paths with the Doctor again, but ultimately knew her place was on Earth with her family, including a fiance.

Character's personality: Martha is definitely someone you want around in a crisis. She's clever, independent and clear headed. Her time in Glaxcin only enhanced these particular traits.

While Martha greatly enjoyed her travels with the Doctor, she actually thrives more when she's not in his immediate shadow. She is self aware enough that she could eventually see that as fond as she was of him, he just wasn't good for her and made the choice to leave on her own terms, which is a rarity among the revival companions.

Related to that, she has a clear head on her shoulders. When faced with a crisis, she quickly evaluates the situation and finds a solution. She often doesn't get enough credit for the way she just quietly takes care of business. She's very practically minded which over her time in Glaxcin has started to reach the realm of "no nonsense", though her definition of nonsense is less strange happenings and more people trying to start brawls in her infirmary or steal narcotics. Like any former companion, she takes strangeness related to aliens and time travel in stride.

She's more than a little geeky, often comparing things in her adventures to things out of science fiction and fantasy. She even uses that knowledge to bluff her way through strange situations. These days, she's quite accustomed to aliens and time travel shenanigans, so she'll be quite at home on the Enterprise in the 24th century.

Not surprisingly for someone who went into medicine, Martha wants to help people. She is always a healer first and foremost and will try to treat the sick and injured even in the worst circumstances. And if she can help in non-medical ways, she's also eager to do that. While the unhealthy unrequited love situation was part of the reason she left, she also had a strong desire to finish her medical training and actually put it into practice. Somewhat notable for science fiction doctors, she even has good bedside manner!

Martha's family is also very important to her, as the Master learned all too well. Even before going through hell, she was always doing her best to hold everything together through the chaos created by her parents' divorce. Her mother's home is still the place she thinks of when she just wants to feel safe.

Character's skills/abilities/powers: Martha is a trained physician. She's most familiar with humans but between her travels with the Doctor and time in Glaxcin, she's also passingly familiar with a variety of non-human physiologies. Most importantly, she's familiar enough to ask about them rather than assuming that a treatment which is safe for humans is always wise.

Travelling with the Doctor also means she's picked up a variety of espionage and infiltration skills. They do an awful lot of breaking into and out of places, after all.

Any special equipment your character is bringing along? This includes weaponry, magic items, etc.: Bumbag medical kit, labcoat, hose

Are you bringing your character to [community profile] ten_fwd from another game? If you are, which game?: Yes, [community profile] glaxcinprison
If you answered yes above, briefly summarize how they were changed by and what challenges they faced in the climate of their previous game(s): Martha was technically only in Glaxcin for about a month. However, what you must understand is that due to a slightly ridiculous time ratio, there were five years of jamjar shenanigans in that month. For much of this time, Martha was one of only two physicians, often struggling to treat injuries with very few resources. She also frequently missed meals and subsisted on coffee. She is, to put it bluntly, done with this nonsense. The Enterprise is going to be a nice break for her, though she'd still prefer to be at home.

Why do you want to play this character in Ten Forward, and what do you plan to do with them? I've missed playing her since Glaxcin closed. I figured Beverly can probably use the help in sickbay. And it would be nice to play her in a slightly less exhausting environment.

Writing Sample #1: Martha is tired of demons in her infirmary

Since I had a fair bit of experience with time travel and other miscellaneous weirdness before I arrived in Glaxcin, I thought I would take this opportunity to lay out a brief introduction for those who are still confused. The most important thing to remember throughout this is...

DON'T PANIC

The Warden doesn't seem to be particuarly picky about when he takes people from within the same dimension. This actually isn't cause for concern. Time travel is relatively harmless when compared to the interdimensional stunts he's pulling. The timelines are mostly going to just be cause for confusion. This can be readily avoided by establishing early on when people are from. Unless your companions are used to time travel (in which case I imagine you would have skipped over this in the first place), it's probably better to ask a new arrival what the last thing they remember is rather than a blunt "When are you from?" Nothing muddles a conversation quite like a multiple year difference in memory.

Which brings us quite neatly to the next point I'd like to emphasize...

SHUSH WITH THE SPOILERS

It's really for the best to not tell people about any major developments. The overall timeline is hard to do anything dangerous to, but personal timelines are another case entirely. Especially don't tell anyone that they're going to die. It's just going to cause a lot of premature grief.

Dopplegangers

Thanks to the Warden's interdimensional antics, there have been cases of prisoners from different places looking identical. So if someone comes up to you swearing you're their girlfriend, odds are neither of you are crazy, you're just used to someone with the same face. And if you think you just met yourself, don't worry, the universe is not going to explode.

If you have a more specific situation than is covered in this rough guide, please feel free to come talk to me about it and we'll see what we can work out.

It has come to my attention that the cabinet containing assorted narcotics is in dire need of a lock. Access needs to be restricted to medical personnel in order to avoid some of the problems we've had today.

Also, since the medical staff have varying specialties, a system through which we could page each other would be extremely useful in ensuring that all prisoners receive appropriate medical care.

Finally, I want a hose.

If anyone wishes to discuss medical concerns, Dr. Cottle and I are currently in the infirmary. Please don't hesitate to come see us. I once again urge anyone posessing non-human standard physiology to please discuss it with one of us before you find yourself at death's door. We don't want to accidentally worsen anyone's condition when attempting to treat it.

With the growing non-human population, the likelihood of physiological complications is on the rise. I would strongly encourage anyone whose physiology differs from standard human to consult with either myself or Dr. Cottle about those differences. It's important that we know what treatments are or aren't safe for any potential patient before timely decisions become necessary. I would also like to suggest that anyone with specific medical concerns do the same. This is of course voluntary, but as a physician I strongly suggest it.

On that note, Warden, I would like to request a supply of pens and paper for keeping track of these matters.

I would really like a portable medical kit. One that I could keep with me at all times.
